In April gamblers left an estimated $213.9 million at Louisiana Casinos. this is a major jump from the $189.4 million from the same time last year according to a recently released state police report.
This is a continuing trend that has taken place since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the area last year. The 12 riverboat casinos tool in about 151.2 million compared to last years $129 million for the same time. This is despite the fact that there were several more casinos open last year then there are now.
After hitting an all time record of $33.7 million in winnings for the month of March, Harrah’s Entertainment’s downtown casino in New Orleans followed by a $31.2 million last month. At the same time last year it was only $29.8 million.
The slot machine casinos at 3 of the Louisiana race tracks made $31.2 million in April, which is up from $29.8 million at the same time last year.
The state is without 3 of its licensed 15 riverboat casinos. The Columbia Sussex Corp is trying to move one of its boats to St. Mary parish, and Harrah’s has said it will not open 2 of its riverboat casinos in Lake Charles.
In May of last year, Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. opened its L'Auberge Du Lac riverboat casino resort in Lake Charles, which has been successful
