Eats that you can't Beat
The foods I will post will almost all meet specific criteria. That criterion is that the foods must be neat and relatively easy and fast to prepare. No one wants to play cards and get dealt a hand that is covered in grease and BBQ sauce.
What you serve can affect the game you are playing. If you are at your weekly poker game and every 5 minutes someone is getting up to go get a plate of something. People are going to get angry that they are not playing, and eventually people will get fed up and leave.
If you do not serve a good food your players may get hungry and then you either have to order food or the other players will eventually go home to eat and once again the same result a ruined card game.
This also applies to playing in an online poker room. When it is your time there is a timer and if you are not at the PC if you are in the kitchen making food during game play you will get skipped and tossed out of the hand and if it happens enough time you ill get kicked off the table.
Here is one of my favorite recipes for my poker game it is for a classic Italian Sub Sandwich.
Original recipe yield: 4 servings.
Prep Time:20 Minutes
Ready In:1 Hour 20 Minutes
Servings:4
INGREDIENTS:
1 head red leaf lettuce, rinsed and torn
2 medium fresh tomatoes, chopped
1 medium red onion, chopped
6 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 pinch dried oregano
1/2 pound sliced Capacola sausage
1/2 pound thinly sliced Genoa salami
1/4 pound thinly sliced prosciutto
1/2 pound sliced provolone cheese
4 submarine rolls, split
1 cup dill pickle slices
DIRECTIONS: In a large bowl, toss together the lettuce, tomatoes and onion. In a separate bowl, whisk together the olive oil, white wine vinegar, parsley, garlic, basil, red pepper flakes and oregano. Pour over the salad, and toss to coat evenly. Refrigerate for about 1 hour. Spread the submarine rolls open, and layer the Capacola, salami, prosciutto, and provolone cheese evenly on each roll. Top with some of the salad, and as many pickle slices as desired. Close the rolls and serve.
Something I do that is not in the directions I take the rolls and make garlic bread on them first before putting the sandwich together and it is quite popular. Just do not over toast the bread.
